Бернард Шоу (1856-1950) — уславлений ірландський письменник і драматург, лауреат Нобелівської премії. Одну зі своїх п’єс-шедеврів він написав, надихнувшись міфом про скульптора Пігмаліона, який закохується у своє творіння — дівчину-статую і просить богиню вдихнути в неї життя. У Шоу, щоправда, головна героїня — вульгарна квіткарка Лайза Дулитл жива-живісінька, ще й говірка нівроку. «Скульптор» — мовознавець Генрі Гіггінс має виліпити з неї вишукану даму, причепуривши та навчивши правильної мови. Але після вдалого дебюту вихованки, щось пішло не так… П’єса «Пігмаліон» не сходить зі сцени, бо є улюбленицею і постановників, і глядачів.
