Давно те було. Уже поросли небуттям степи і могили. Й книжки такі мали б уже давно бути, але ми, українці, не мали такого права, бо жили у величезній «щасливій» державі на ймення Радянський Союз — тюрма народів. Минають часи, відходять уже останні свідки подій середини двадцятого століття і ми, нащадки цілих, нащадки вцілілих, збираємо по зернятках їхні спогади. Не забути, не втратити, пам’ятати. Історії, описані тут, — історії справжніх живих дітей, які уміли гратися і допомагати своїм батькам, мріяли про щось, чогось не любили, часом не були слухняними. Словом, ці історії — історії найзвичайнісіньких дітей, розказані ними чи їхніми родичами. І коли мене спитали б, чи я знаю цих людей, то моя відповідь: «Так». Двоє з оповідачок — бабусі моїх добрих подруг, а одна — моя, бо немає в Україні людей, родин яких не торкнулося страшне слово «Голодомор». Не бажаю гарного читання.
