лас Олексійович Самчук (1905—1987) — український письменник, журналіст, публіцист. Найвідоміший твір Самчука — трилогія «Волинь» — був номінований на Нобелівську премію. Життя українських емігрантів у Канаді є темою романа «На твердій землі» (1967). Герой роману Павло Данилів — сильний тип чоловіка-українця, який позбавлений комплексів меншовартості, яскраво виражений індивідуаліст, що хоче жити, а не існувати.
