Еріх Кестнер (1899–1974) – один з небагатьох майстрів слова, твори якого з однаковим інтересом можуть читати дорослі і діти. Напевно, тому що, як зауважив одного разу сам письменник, "тільки справжня людина, подорослішавши, залишається дитиною". Кестнер написав 15 книжок про дітей і для дітей, і незважаючи на те, що ці книжки писалися з кінця 20-х до 50-х років минулого сторіччя, вони анітрохи не застаріли. І хоча за життя сповнене злету праця письменника була гідна оцінена – 1957-го він отримав літературну премію імені Георга Бюхнера, а 1960-го – Золоту медаль Г.К.Андерсена, – проте його слава має направду нетлінний відтінок.
