Олесь Досвітній (справжнє ім’я Олександр Скрипаль-Міщенко) — маловідомий і неординарний український письменник початку ХХ століття. В роки Першої світової він за поширення революційних ідей був заарештований, але зміг утекти через Киргизстан і Китай до Америки, і згодом повернувся вже до підрадянської України. Досвід подорожі, незнайомих країв заклали основу багатьох його текстів, а нові теми екзотики і східних народів хвалили й колеги-письменники, як-от Микола Хвильовий. У прозі Досвітнього проглядаються пошуки власної ролі в омріяній революції і неоднозначні почуття після неї. Навіть дрібні нотки сумнівів не залишилися непоміченими з боку радянської влади, тож письменник поповнив списки жертв Сталінського терору.
